Deadeye Wrote:at the risk of taking the thread even farther OT than it is

Um, this thread has a topic? Eek I kinda started it mostly to self-confine my various ravings ...

Deadeye Wrote:The first video shows a quadruped robot navigating both sheer ice and a jumble of cinder blocks. The second video shows how the vision system of Stanley works. (Stanley was the winner of the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge autonomous ground vehicle race).

Oh, I'm certainly not saying that the technology won't exist. Big Dog's a little creepy, but it's also a fascinating proof of concept. The vision system had less "wow" to it, but it still shows that challenge will be met, too.

I'll stand by the assertion that it's a long way from proof of concept to militarized ready state. Those things aren't Hero's aerophile needing to wait 1,600 years for Watt's working steam engine, certainly not. But they might be Chinese fireworks needing to stew a solid century before the idiotproof, practical matchlock.

The turn started out promising, as my Warthog made another pass at that pesky Nona, and still couldn't kill it but at least *executed a midflight turn.* It's the little things that make my day. It also avoided some SAM rounds, which was interesting because the 60mm barrage intended to suppress said SAMs was set 0.1 earlier than the flight but arrived afterward. (Time to target delay? Or just shortcut programming because the Warthog was purchased before the mortar?)

The order of purchase determines the order of execution. So it can be important to by the stuff in the right order. For example, buy arty before air so the arty can suppress air defense.
On the other hand, sometimes you may want the air first and the arty after, for example if you plot smoke that may get in the way of your getting a fix on a target for its run.

PS congrats on the midflight-turn! Sounds like Miller time!

I knew this applied to everything firing in the same segment. Ie, mortar A4 at 0.4 delay fires before cannon B3 at 0.4 delay. But I thought that everything at 0.4 delay fired before anything at 0.5 delay. Apparently not.

I know! I know! I'm filled with an overweening sense of pride!

Seriously though, I've yet to get it to turn from a diagonal to a diagonal. Coming in straight on, then turning to a diagonal, that's what worked.

Any port in a storm or excuse on a Friday, amigo.

For what I've seen is T-55s and BTRs, one single T-72 has been in the pictures so far ... and that is for Russian equipment. And by the look of the men by the vehicles they are not first rate either. I didn't know that Russia even have T-55s anymore. Makes you wonder what kind of troops they've sent there.

Uh ... not that this thread doesn't wander OT more often than not, but I think you're describing some other battle entirely.

Vesa, baby, time to lay off the lonkeros ... The night's still young.

Bad ... bad ... bad mushroom!

I'm not saying that I've been paying much attention to the conflict but I must have been really unlucky to find all the wrong info from it then. Just my luck.
Maybe you should stick to vodka. The 142 million brisket-sized livers to the southeast of you can't all be wrong!

LOL

But judging from the numbers killed each year by mushrooms makes me think they are just discovering those champs of shit.
The little Mexican mind grenade didn't do the Aztecs much good, either. Maybe in their next invasion the Russians will base their personal defense on ghost shirts instead of VIRSS smoke dischargers.

That'll teach 'em.

You can't make the turns too tight, maybe that's it. You can't fly in from the left mapside and then exit from the top left or bottom left. That's too tight. What you can do is enter from the top left and exit via the bottom left. Or the other way around.
