CS Vets:

I've been a Blitz member for a few years - joined in 2006.

However, I am just returning to "active" membership since Sept. 2007! Eek

CS ver. 1.03 (regardless of the current issues) has modivated me to start playing some CS scenarios - especially Rising Sun. I now have a few PBeM games underway.

Here's the rub. :chin: I consider myself a "fair" player, but feel pretty inadequate Eek when I measure myself against many CS Blitz members and the games I have already played.

Net: I want to learn how to be a better CS player. Big Grin

Some things I know I need to do:

(1.) Get more PBeM games under my belt. I only have 10 recorded games with a 2 win / 8 loss record (.200). Need to seek out and play many different players and be exposed to many different playing styles.

(2.) Read the posted strategy articles. I have read many of these articles - especially the RS-related ones. "Japanese in RS," "Night Fighting Rules," and "Proper Use of Artillery in Set Piece Battles."

(3.) Read the After Action Game Reports. Again, I have read many of these articles too.

Many things I don't know how to do (or do well)

Examples:

(1.) How to get my troops close enough to the enemy (without getting blown to bits or suffer massive D's) and then still be able to assault.

(2.) How to effectively use air support. What targets to select?

(3.) How to conduct effective direct fire, manuever and assault combos.

(4.) Most effective use of hidden movement (shoot & scoot)

(5.) etc. etc. etc. :whis:

I'm not trying to "boil the ocean" here, but am looking for a few basic solid tactics / strategies I can put into play immediately to help improve my overall CS games - especially in Rising Sun.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Good gaming everyone! cheers
In the MANUALS folder is the following:

MCS_HINTS_TIPS.doc

It is merely a drop in the ocean, but will give you something to read and maybe learn from!

Thank you Jason! :)

Now... where exactly can I place my hands on the referenced manual? :chin:

I looked on the Bliz Web site and Public ftp server. Missing it?

Can you provide me with a link? :conf:
It's on your HD. If you have installed it in default location it should be:
Local Disc --> Matrix Games --> John Tiller's Campaign Series --> Manuals

I hope it will help

Well.. glory be! There it is!

Sorry for being a little slow here. I've been playing CS off and on for the past 2 years, but never knew about these game manuals. :conf:

Thanks again for helping this "very" Rookie player! :cool2:
Not a problem. The first time I really read manual was when I bought Matrix :smoke:

See you around Shark2

My best advice is play lots of different people that are better than you. Don't worry as much about winning as learning by watching their replays.

I see the Campaign games like a game of chess. You have a lot of fun winning but don't learn if you don't play against people better than yourself. Remember that it is human nature that we only learn minor things from our wins but most of what we learn is from our mistakes.

I think a far side greeting card I once saw stated it best. It had a bunch of cave men around a dead mammoth with only 1 arrow in him. The one looks at the other and says, "Maybe we should write that spot down".

Mike,

as already said.
play many other players. ask them how to improve while playing. discuss the scn after you have finished it.

...and play the AI to improve your play. i played CS for nearly 7 years (97-04) before i played my first H2H game.

i send you a tips and tricks manual which Steve/Tabesalt has edited.

cheers

Hi Steffen: :)

Thank you very much for the CS Guide Manual! Big Grin

Wow, huge volume (nearly 1/2 inch thick printed) with "tons" of good stuff in there.

I sent you an email and plan to circle back with you for a few games after August 10th.

Until then... I have a lot of reading to do! Eek

Happy holiday Steffen! cheers
