This mod will not effect any OOB files, and can be installed mid-game with no PBEM or security problems at all.

It's an 18MB rar file, that includes an excel sound guide for SPWW2. The sound guide identifies most of the sounds, and shows which ones have been replaced in this mod.

Please be aware that SPWW2 has some sound limitations and issues:

Many weapons often draw on a single sound. For example the sound for the Vickers HMG is also used by some Bren or even German units.

Some weapons draw on multiple sounds. For example rifles from the same unit may sound like bolt action one volley and them semi-autos the next.

All wheeled vehicles (except motorcycles) share a single sound; and even ships use the wheeled vehicle sound (not joking).
I decided to replace the current wheeled vehicle with a decent road vehicle sound, as use of ships is more limited.

All aircraft (except gliders, spotter planes and helicopters) draw on the same sound. Bombers use it again and again making the sound run over itself.

Although it's relatively easy to replace sounds with better sounds, it won't resolve the above issues.

Cross Sounds 0.6 replaces 60% or 89 of the original 152 sounds.
I tried to replace the sounds I more commonly come across.
Fifteen sounds have been replaced by the same sound but with improved quality.

Installation

1. Create a backup of your original 'Sounds' folder.
2. Unzip and copy or move the 89 wav files into the 'Sounds' folder and Replace All.

SPMBT

MBT gives you the option to use wav or MP3. I believe wav is the default.
If you use wav then you can also install this mod to your MBT sounds folder, because MBT used the SPWW2 sound map.

Please post any feedback, issues or suggestions here.

cheers,
Cross
Thanks you, this that that demands completion in original WinSP !
cheers
hmm..., if they are SPWAW sounds I doubt they will be used in any official WW2/MBT release...

I have never heard number 35 before though..., what unit use that sound...:)
You are right that this mod could not be used on an official release. The sounds come from perhaps a dozen different sources including spWAW. So to profit from this mod would be unethical and a breach of copyright.

Some sounds - from other sources - have then been edited, altered, made shorter, faded, repeated or changed in various ways. They are all better quality than the original sounds they replace.
Good work Cross. Everything I've heard so far is a real improvement over the original sounds. Are you planning to do more sounds or is the mod complete?

..and Don would be slightly annoyed if it was suggested.

It's the movement sound for Black Watch units. :)

...and here I thought it was Shimi Lovat and No 4 Commando come to save the day....

Hi Zeiss,

Thanks for the kind words.

I do hope to update some more sounds, but identifying the sounds and which units use the sound is the main roadblock. The excel sound guide (with the mod) is just that a "guide" where many are only a guess about the sounds indentity.

First, you have to identify what sound number is associated with a specific sound.

Secondly, the sound is probably used by several completely different weapons, but which weapon is the sound supposed to be?
Or does the sound have a primary weapon, which it should sound like?

It's likely that many of the remaining sounds are for OOB that I don't play very often (like Japan and USSR) and so I haven't been able to identify them.

If any of you guys have a sound that you come across a lot that you'd like updated, just use that excel sound guide (and click on likely wav files in your sounds folder) to see if you can find its sound number, then let me know, and I'll work on it for the next release.
