Howdy boys,

I'm the former "Gnrl Confusion" from the gamesquad forums. Since there's already a player here with a similar call sign, I've joined as Scud. Hope no one minds.

I'm presently in the throes of finding a scenario that's evenly balanced and that my opponent, John Given, and I hopefully haven't played or haven't played in a long time. I hate looking for scenarios. I found something this time, but . . .

I'm thinking it would be nice if the club could have "packages" set up that would contain the most evenly balanced scenarios so that, instead of searching for something, I could just propose challanging an opponent to scenario pack #3, which might contain 5 scenarios. We'd then just play each one in order 'til all 5 were done. Or scenario pack #6, which might contain 10 scenarios, etc. New packs could be added all the time, as new scenarios are created and tested for balance. Some pacs could be for smaller games, others for larger or mixed.

Sure would make it easier. I think I suggested it on Gamesquad once, but never got any interest.

Any thoughts? I'm new here and it's an old club, so if it's already been done or suggested, my apologies. If anyone thinks it deserves a try, any ideas setting something up?

By the way, I have a lot of experience, but don't consider myself all that great a player. I prefer loose turn around times; play the turn when you're in the mood, not 'cause you feel you have to. If anyone's looking for an opponent now or in the future, keep me in mind. As for the scenario . . . you pick.
Hi Scud,

Welcome to the Campaign Series Ladder here at The Blitz. :)

I do know what you are saying but, it took me less than thirty seconds to go to the scenario data base and select West Front scenarios. I then sorted by "games played" and had a look to see which were rated as balanced, by the players.

There also have been some that have passed through the H2H scenario development area that were approved and can be searched out in even less time by sorting the scenarios by "approved". :chin:

Mostly you have to remember that balance is a factor of the scenario design and the ability of the two players? :eek1:Whip

cheers
Oh well, it was just an idea, no biggy.

Speaking of the data base, though, what does the rating column imply. I was clicking on it assuming it was for scenarios that past players rated "best", but that's obviously wrong.
Glad you posted your intro finally David. Big Grin

I was not aware you don't like looking for scenarios.

As far as categorizing them by balance, I have done that very thing with some simple lists I made. I think one is called "most balanced / unbalanced WF scenarios" and some include minor notes, like what scen has been modded, if it could use a revision, etc. I'll get around to sending it to you sometime.

As far as determining difficulty on the scenario list, Roadrunner has a point. Just be sure to remember to take into account the "games played" stat that shows the number of times it's been reported. If there's only been a few playings, there's no real way to tell how balanced/unbalanced something is. And the only reason I made my own little list is because I like to see all scens "at a glance" without having to flip through a lot of different pages. (it took me almost a week to type it all out though...ugh)

Finally, keep in mind that some players, like me, prefer to play the "disadvantaged" side...it's more challenging, and more rewarding if I win. This can skew the balance ratings on the latter somewhat (because normally, the tougher side should usually lose).

Talk to you soon my good man. cheers
