Full Version: Steel Panthers - the ultimate version!

Gentlemen, I have a dream - a dream that some day some creative soul(s) with an indepth knowledge of Steel Panthers and eagerness to make the best tactical turnbased wargame even better goes and makes the final, ultimate version of the game. This can happen, it has to!:happy:

In this thread we'll help this creative soul in what kind of game he should make. So the deal is this: A group of young wargame-freaks gather some capital from a billionaire SP-fan to make the ultimate version of Steel Panthers. They've bought all the rights of all of the previous games and are not short on money. They can build a new engine without any restrictions. Only sky is limit.

What should they do? Here we gather ideas of how to make the game better without completely changing it. I'll try to collect the ideas to this first post whenever I can. I'll make a detailed list (if there's interest and good ideas, that is) here and if (and hopefully when!!Big Grin) someone begins the process, he has a good bunddle of ideas to start with. I will make different subcategories once the list is long enough.

So gentlemen, the stage is yours. Here's my first ideas:

1. Combine all the timelines and make it at least from 1930-2030 (perhaps even 1914-2050).
2. Make it possible to have battles using OOBs from different times (Nazis 1944 vs. Marines 1968:kill:).
3. More detailed statistical data both during and after the battle: running counter of how many points you've nailed (what you've seen that is) and lost with detailed list of casualities (number different kinds of units and men). After the battle detailed data on % of killed of the whole force, detailed losses list, losses per turn tables for both sides etc. (I'm a stats freak:smoke:).
4. Show dead bodies in the battlefield (and ON/OFF feature to this).
5. More features to tournaments: fixed core that gains experience etc. and can be upgraded.
6. Rarity ON/OFF.
7. Value of VLs up to 10k points.
8. VLs that show themselves on a certain turn of the battle.
9. Opportunity to tweak rules of the battles (% of points to arty, 0size units, paras, numbers/% of men in different categories...well, it would be nice to have a broad list of things to tweak that would enable not to trust only the word of the opponent. At least all of these should be able to tweak: http://koti.mbnet.fi/thexder/Steel/steelrulesV.html.). Both sides would have to accept the list generated by the other player before beginning the purchase phase.
10. Chance to handpick the areas both teams are able to deploy. For example there could be a small village on the center of the map and the defending side would be able to deploy there and only there.
11. Mines laid by engineers.
12. Opportunity to tweak the victory conditions before the battle in the same way (/at the same time) as with the rules. And there could be broad spectrum of such conditions (killing more men = x points, holding VL at xx,xx y points per turn, killing enemy HQ x points; Weasel scoring etc.)
****I should stress that the main thing I'd like to see is that there would be high amount of optionality in the game, a chance to develope a game with just the rules and features suits oneself. All of the things I mentioned should be optional and one should be able to play the game the way he wants.

These are just from the top of my mind. I'm sure you'll come up with even more! Especially when I've only really played MBT and WWII and there must be tons of features in the other SP-games that would be included (Optionally of course) in this ultimate version. So let's hear it gentlemen!
