OK during one of my latest setups a few thoughts occurred to me...

1. Do troops in a building have a LOS advantage over another terrain tile with the same height e.g. troops climbing to the upper floors of a building for a look see. Surely not all buildings are classed as bungalows and as such the same height as the terrain its sat on !!!

2. Can Helos at low altitude be affected by the blast of arty fire in the same or adjacent hexs ?

3. Being a civilian at heart, what is the sequence of Army formations ? e.g. section - platoon - company - battalion is as far as my knowledge goes.

4. What is a Brigade, is it just another name for Regiment ? I know that for some odd reason we Brits use the terms Troop and Squadron when dealing with armoured formations instead of platoon and company.

cheers
Howdy; Don't know about 1,2,3, but here is a link which will tell you everything about sequence, regt/btn relationship etc. It will also give you tactical symbols and stuff.

I have seen a low flying Chopper destroyed by arty fire in MBT
Thanks guys, another question.

Can a Helo that comes under fire from a radar guided missile break missile lock for the next turn by landing ?

cheers
I've read about radar tracking helos even through hills, don't think that landing can do anything that a hill can't.
1. I don't think so. I seem to remember something about the LOS being calculated from the level shown when you put the cursor over the hex. That would make sense, since the buildings don't take up the entire hex and the program assume your guys will be peeking around the edge of the building or looking out of a window. So my understanding is that there is no upper level such as Squad Leader had. Not sure I could get that counter to stay on the monitor screen anyway.
2. Yes, I have seen it happen. I think it was against Iwo Jim. I have seen helios knocked down by Fighter bombers also. That was several versions ago and I don't know if it's still possible.
4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigade

The first combined arms teams. In modern terms it varies from country to country. As a rule of thumb, it is bigger then a regiment, but smaller then a division.

As far as the helio breaking radar lock by landing, it used to be possible. I would do it all the time, give my helio a break while I tried to get enough arty on the SAM to suppress it to where I could sneak my helio off. Since 3.0 I haven't had a helio survive a Radar guided SAM or AA gun getting a lock. I have mostly stopped buying them for that reason. I suppose you could consider being converted into a flaming ball of molten aluminum filling a hole in the ground as breaking lock.
Did you get my turn today? My mail box is being weird.
I've seen maps with high buildings in H2H or WaW or some version anyway. Dos versions have buildings 5m or 10m high as default. Those versions assumes that troops are able to climb on the roofs or upper floors giving them a height advantage over clear.
@ Vesku

Yes that's what i've always assumed, i guess a custom made map could have the height of buildings adjusted by the maker but random maps wont.

@ Grumbler

The last file i sent you today was named 'Grumbler 30-12-07.zip', i'll resend it just in case it went astray.
