Full Version: Sounds Mod for winSPww2

I would like to change the default sounds in the game.

What I need to know is where can I find which sounds are currently assigned to what unit. Or a list of what weapons/vehicles use which file. I looked in the OOB editor and only saw a slot (currently populated by a '0') to change the sound file, but not the one it now uses. By the way, I don't intend to use the OOB editor to change the sounds, but will replace the sounds that are in the sounds folder.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions, sound files, links etc. that would be great. Or if you know of any mod that already exists.

I'm no expert, but know enough to back up the original folder first. My experience with sound is limited to taking a SP wav file (incoming heavy artillery shell with explosion) and copying it to my incoming mail program, so it's quite appropriate when I'm waiting for my PBEM opponent to get back to me.

Merry Christmas to all...

There are some great sound mods for Combat Mission and of course the sounds in WaW.

cheers
I found this on Shrapnel, I guess the sound isn't assigned to a weapon, but to the unit itself. That means you would have to edit every unit that uses that weapon...GOOD GRIEF!

"I like to fiddle with weapon sounds quite a bit - assigning specific sounds to various weapons, adding new sounds , etc. and the current system of weapon sounds being assigned by unit rather than to the weapon itself makes for very time consuming editing - especially after an OOB update, when it any changes I've made have to be done all over again."
Thanks Weasel, but at this point I only intend to change the actual wav files, in the data folder, but give them the same file name. This is surely the easier method.

It's only weakness is if two similar weapons currently share a wav file, I wouldn't be able to assign them two different sounds; but I can certainly replace their file and give them a better sound.

I've asked about this on the Shrapnel site also, but no luck yet. The other questions I have are:

Does anyone know where a sound map is for winspww2 (I have a SPWAW one) so I know which sounds are supposed to be what?

Lastly: Current SP wav files are:
Stereo
22KHz
32 bit

How forgiving is winSPWW2 if I were to use 44KHz or 16bit?
I may have to experiment to find the answer to this one...

cheers

Ahh I see. That would be much easier eh, just changing the sounds themselves. I think it is going to boil down to you listening to each one....SNORE.
