Are German empty halftracks considered soft or hard targets? I've always assumed they were soft. Either I've been wrong, or there is a bug
Medium HT Prime Movers, like the Mittlerer Zugkraftwagen 8t
Sd.Kfz.7 and the German Heavy Half-Tracked Prime Movers, like the Schwerer Zugkraftwagen 12t / Sd.Kfz.8 & Schwerer Zugkraftwagen 18t / Sd.Kfz.9, were used for gun towing and ammunition carrying. Some were armed with mounted weaponry but, they had no armor.

Sd.Kfz.250 Series & Sd.Kfz.251 Series were purpose built armored infantry carriers. They also mounted At, artillery, and AA guns. They were all armored whether loaded or unloaded.

I will have to look closely during game play. If I am being 'gipped' by losing Ht's because of "armor issues" I will have to take a trip to visit the developers. :chin:Whip

I always thought any HT's with an assault value (m3/m5,250/251, whites) were coded as HARD targets loaded or unloaded.

HT's that do not have assault values, this includes some AA tracks as well, are coded SOFT for targeting purposes.

That's why folks always complained about the use of them to soak up their armor OPP fire during the movement phase thus leaving the armor exposed and vulnerable to attack without fear of retaliation.

that's my thoughts.. I've been wrong before tho.. :P
Well color me stupid or at least ignorant....Cry Next time I blow away any halftracks in the vicinity.

Here's a formal answer from Jason Petho:

My Sherman tankers may face court martials if this ISN'T a bug.

Playing Kucher's Ragtag Circus with version 2.0. Sherman tanks op fire is set to fire at hard targets only at long range. Soft and other targets are turned off. A german unit fires at them doing no damage. The Shermans expend all op fire at an empty halftrack. My opponent seeing this brings in his Panthers and lays waste to the defenseless Shermans.

Note that unit settings are identical for all of the Sherman platoons including the HQ platoon.

Unfortunately, since you mentioned "empty halftracks", one can assume they did carry infantry at one time, making them armoured. Meaning, they fall in the armour class, which means your OP-FIRE did what it was supposed to do.
