My understanding is, you can patch up in mid-game, but both players have to do it.

Yes, both players have to update the game.....
This update have some good things: artillery units in tactil will not advance into combats, replays in full screen, next/previous combat button in the combat screen.....(this is a splendid for my DNO and GIO games..)
