With all the talk of Silent Hunter 4 and how system heavy it is, it got me wondering, have you ever upgraded your system just so you could play a game title you wanted?

I know I have at least twice. I cannot remember for which title I upgraded about two years ago, but I went to a 3Ghz system. Now this last time I upgraded to a dual core 4200ghz so I could play Silent Hunter, Company of Heroes, and Elder Scrolls without lag. Luckily my wife allows me my whimsical needs. Big Grin

So have you ever upgraded just so you could play a new title?
Not a full system upgrade but i do remember shelling out about £180 for a dual speed CD drive and an extra 8Mb memory strip just so i could play Star Wars Dark Forces. :whis:

Ahhhh Star Wars...... ;)

cheers
I loved those SW games, my favorite was X Wing vs Star Fighter. I actually thought the Imperial forces (I think that was Vader's side wasn't it?) were evil until I played the games and realized they were just trying to unite the galaxy.

I wish they would redo and release X Wing vs Star fighter.
Yeah the old TIE fighter is a much cooler craft than the X-Wing....and what a noise it had. :cool2:

Do you remember what TIE stood for?

cheers
Yeah, shielded spacecrafts are for cowards and rebel scum. The old TIE fighter could take two hits before being destroyed. Only the brave and the highly skilled pilots flew them.

'TIE Fighter' was the best game in the series.

TIE=Twin Ion Engine
Top marks for zeiss.

Next question.....which SW character designed the B-Wing, which you get to fly in one of X-Wings expansion packs if i remember right. :chin:

When ever i play SW:EAW i always play the Empire, there's nothing cooler than bringing a fleet of ISD's out of hyperspace and sending in waves of TIE's.....die rebel scum.

cheers
Yes, I meant to say Tie Fighter not x wing vs tie fighter, although it was good too.

I wonder why they don't redo it and release it, it was cool on a 486 x 100 mhz, imagine a 4200 ghz!!
My guess is that the simulation market is a dead donkey. RTS and FPS are the big cash cows.
Most Star Wars games are just the SW-theme bolted onto an already successful game. :(
I think you are right, it is only us old farts that thought the first SW was the end all to be all that would probably buy it.
I remember going to see the original Star Wars when i was six, sat i the cinema consuming packs of space dust and cheering on the Stormtroopers....ahh what an odd child i was. ;)

I just been trying GWX and the realistic ship sinking mode....took 32 minutes for this bugger to sink. I had time to go get myself a coffee and order up a kebab before he finally sank. :pirate:

Think i may treat myself to SH4 soon.
