The greatest profit of the company on former is brought with sales Microsoft Windows XP - life cycle of all versions Windows XP till April, 8th, 2014 therefore has been prolonged, additional five years of support will enter into force in current of May, 2009.
The quantity of sold licenses Windows XP after output Windows Vista not only has not decreased and for a turnover even has increased and will make significant percent from profit of company Microsoft.

I was running XP and upgraded to Vista. At first SP would not run but once I updated my video drivers (Catalyst for my ATI card) it ran fine. However, although I liked the look of Vista I went back to XP the very next day. Also a ton of my other programs would not work at all (partition magic, defragmenter, and my Brother's In Arms games to name a few).
