Greetings!

Finally got a couple titles. I want to play the ai a couple times as I am used to East Front and Squad Battles. Should I learn the stock system first or install the ALT packs and learn the game with them?
Many thanks in advance!

Being relatively new myself and having progressed to the point of actually putting up a fight against humans I'll give my opinion. It's not so much the -alt packs/scenarios that make a difference as it is the optional rules you use. The -alt packs don't really change the game (with the exception of having more unit break down opportunities in some cases), while the optional rules change it very much (expecially the various combat results options). My experience is very limited, but in the PzC series the optional rules seem to have a bigger impact than any such rules I've seen in other systems.

In short, go ahead and load the -alt packs, or don't. It won't impact that mush how you learn PzC. Watch the optional rules, though. Getting into habits with one set will find you thrown for a loop if you fight with another set turned on.

...or rather the Optional Combat and FIRE Rules, that make the difference - not to split hairs.

Thanks, I'll get into the habit of using the alt rules in the above sticky thread.
What Glenn said, of course.

And rereading what I wrote one other thing comes to mind. My cavalier comment on the -alt packs may seem like they're inconsequential. They're far from that. The work put into them is extraordinary, they're totally worth getting into, and they increase the value of the PzC games immensely. All done as labors of love (as far as I know). As such they deserve kudos, thumbs up, three cheers and all that. The service done in making them is hugely appreciated!

Jeez, now I re-read my post and I wasn't clear at all.

If your playing the any of the Default game scns you are of course free to pick whatever rule you like or don't like.

But if you CHANGE the FIRE Rules, that is either turning the ON when the feault is OFF or, turing them OFF when they are turned ON, then expect the Vic levels to be completely out of wack. You see what these rules do is change the model for how kills are applied and and that means if the scns was tested one way with kills calculated with one set of rules, they will not work the other way.

Now if you don't care about the Vic levels - and lets face it not everyone is. Many guys just like the gaming experience, then you can do as you like.

ALT Scns with other add ons are again designed for certain rules and you should follow those recommendations as well.

When in doubt, ask.
