I have played some scenarios where I am able to disrupt/destroy units easier than others.

I have even had scenarios where a unit will take hit after hit, turn after turn without receiving any damage.

Are there different settings that can be used when creating a scenario?

Thanks.

Jack
Depends what you mean by settings you could put 2 Batt's on the map one with morale of 4 the other with a morale of 9 same goes with defence etc etc.
dawg,

outside of morale, there is nothing you can do to augment a unit's abilities...outside of the choice of unit...and it's strength...

...look for a turn...I am on the boards...for a little while...until the Old Lady finds out about me...

cheers

curt
Yeah the lowering of morale does wonders for slowing down the great halftrack assaults too :-)
LOL Getting very critical in your old age Earl.Hope you and your family are keeping well and your getting enough Lobsters. As Homer would say Droool.ie as to the lobsters.
What started this thread was my questions to the dawg. I'll snip from our emails:

J2D:

In a EFII game I have surrounded an improved hex with 4 or 5 German platoons in it.
7 T34s fired twice at one platoon and had no effect. What do I have to do to kill something in these games?

BD:

Is it an IP or a bunker?

J2D:

Just an IP with a 50pt VL. I held it with 2 tanks for a while.

I was trying to disrupt the troops to assault it. I hit it with 122mm arty first and disrupted one of four troops. No HQ in the hex.

Next turn the same thing. 7 T34 41 firing undisrupted from one hex into the hex.

I can understand a few bad dice rolls but something doesn't make sense in this instance.

So it is just a die roll? Not a rock, paper, scissors thing where I shouldn't use tanks against troops?

In the same battle, German engineers would destroy my tanks but my engineers had no effect. Is the game biased by year and country?
J2D,

Re: Engineers. The German engineers have a very deadly hard attack of 18 at a range of 1 while their Soviet counterparts were never issued AT equipment by the designers. Consequently Soviet Engineers attack hard targets at a humble strength of 1. Believe the Germans are intended to be combat engineers while the Sov's are construction. (?).

Re: T-34's at pointblank. Very possible and at times likely. You do not mention what the terrain is where the IP is positioned. Since it is a VP hex I'll assume it's probabaly at least a village. Now lets look at the modifiers. A T-34 fires with a soft attack of 11 at a range of 1. An improved positions reduces the attacker's fire by 25% to 8.25 which in turn will be reduced by the other terrain in the hex, I assumed a village which modifies fire to 70% effect reducing your 8.25 attack to 5.77, fractions lost, and a final attack of 5. Note less than half of your original 11. Are the defenders Wehrmacht or SS? Defense strengths of 7 or 8? Are they stacked with a leader?.... he raises everyones morale reducing the chances for disruption or retreat. So ultimately each of your 7 SP's of T34's is making a die roll on probably a 1:2 table with only a 25% chance for any effect. And you may in fact be having an effect (causing morale checks) but the defenders are just not breaking.

Hope that helps a bit.
Yes it helps, thanks.

The most serious boardgame I've played was Axis and Allies, and computer games have been individual unit based. I'm having a tough time with how attack and defend values are determined and what the TEMs are.

BTW, Parrying the Thrust was the scen. By turn 10 I was toast.
J2D,

Next time you play, hit F3. Brings up the CRT, all the terrain modifiers, (which are cumulative), terrain morale modifiers (which I forgot to mention earlier), and all sorts of interesting info.
Thanks

I have trouble remembering all the things about these games.

I need to lock myself in the bathroom with the manual for a month or so...
