Hi folks,

Is there a summary of any house rules anywhere and what's considered OK or otherwise. Having started a couple of games now FOW on (well doh!) and likewise all optional rules on I was wondering if this is standard hereabouts.

I remember many, many moons ago there was some discussion as to whether or not to actually impliment armour facing effects or whether or not to use it in PBEM. What's the concensus view?

Likewise, sending trucks (soft transport) on death or glory rides to an enemy's rear to draw fire has always been a "no-no" is there anything else considered a little unsporting?

Or is it a case of RTF? :hissy: If so where is it?
Hello, Chris

Good to see you around cheers

As for any house rules, optional rules etc... first of all discuss it with your oponent before you start. Just to avoid any misunderstandings :kill:

There are traditionally three camps of ROE's for CS:

1) no soft units purposely used to block, surround for capture purposes, or scout (soft units do not have any FP rating, like empty trucks, wagons).

2) no ht units / lorry carriers used to purposely scout, draw fire, or overrun armour with no infantry support. Lorries must be used historically and remain within 5 hex range of troops it carries, and can only be used for capture / overruns within that 5 hex range (or whatever is agreed upon. A HT can be used as a combat unit if it is carrying troops.

3) Armor facing rules on or off.

Those are the main ones.

Cheers!

I guess I would add that consensus seems to be:

1. The one on trucks/wagons not scouting surrounding seems to be pretty much universally accepted.

2. The use of halftracks is up for debate (and often has been). It is generally viewed as unrealistic to have swarms of halftracks swanning around rear areas or leading as recon/surrounding and capturing etc while their actual platoon of infantry puffs along miles behind, abandoned to its own devices. Also, people seem to dislike seeing HT's close assault and destory armour. Hence various house rules.

A simpler ROE might be: No assaults by nothing but empty halftracks. The rest will work itself out.....empty halftracks may be good sacrifical lambs to have at the front of a column, but they are also easy points.

I would disagree that lorries can ever be moved to be used as part of the "surround" in a surround and capture. They should be moved out of the way in every circumstance. But....if an enemy moves next to them, and that contributes to the enemy being subsequently overrun, then tough luck for the enemy.

3. Using armour facing is easily the most common mode of play, but the opposite opinion does constitute a substantial minority. So that is up for negotiation. There are some scenarios (eg Don Fox's) that are specifically designed for armour facing off.
