After I think I have moved and fired every unit, I cycle through each unit individually (movement), then each unit (fire).

I noticed in one scenario that the cycle would skip three tanks, both movement and fire. I could highlight them individually and move or fire, but not using the "next unit" icon?

This situation continued for 12 straight turns and the end of the game.

Anyone had this experience?

Might not be too much of a problem in a small scenario, but if you are playing "Showdown at Borisov", you might not notice?

Thanks,

Pat

Pat,
I have seen this situation before and it usually means there is an OOB file problem. The units will be in the scenario but they will have no way to trace to the ORG file.If you highlight the unit and then hit F2 there will be no chain of command for the unit.....it will also have no HQ....and usually is not very effective when firing....and I think if you lose them they will not register in the victory conditions.

Usually this problem arises when the OOB file gets changed and the designer forgets to remove the units from the scenario file.

I have seen this happen often (perhaps even every game), but mostly with guns. These units were definitely in the .org file.

IMO it's better not to rely on the "next" button too much.

Huib
Oh...........I must disagree...........if the units do not respond to the "next" button.......there is a problem in the OOB transference to the.scn file.......most likely the above problem......or someone used the "save as" option in saving the .org file.........if everything is right the units will cycle using the "next" button.
As far as I know the cycle button just goes through the units from left to right and some (mostly guns) are skipped for unknown reasons in every game. The reason Von Earlman gives would implicate that every scenario has units in the scn file that were later removed from the org file. That is rarely the case though. I'm sure that such units would indeed also be skipped by the next button, it doesn't explain all the failures of the "next" button.

Huib
Huib is right as the next button will only cycle thru units that have movement capabilities. Montana's case indicated tanks were being skipped which should have had movement capabilities. If that type of unit is skipped it is most likely because the .org file was either corrupted, changed, or "saved as".........etc.

Easiest way to find out is to highlight the unit and hit F2 button.......if it does not show an organization to follow chain of command there is a problem between the .org and .scn file. The problem can also occur if both players do not have the exact same .org file. When one plays the .scn file it will corrupt it for both players. I run into this on occasion with the campaigns which is why I put a big emphasis on making sure all the players have the exact .org file before playing any turns.
