Full Version: Game tactic question

You've got 5 tanks around a town you control. The town is surrounded on all sides by heavy forest. Your opponent is hidden, but during his fire phase, he moves into view, fires and retreats.

You can't scout his position because anything you send into the forest will be destroyed.

He takes some losses and you take some losses, but you never know where he might be moving his tanks for his next fire turn.

Given the situation, what is your best response?

Thanks,

Pat
Well...how is it that he can move into the town from forest, fire and retreat? Thats a move, plus at least 35 pts for the fire, pls 65 to move back into the forest....that doesn't compute. So we don't have all the info. There must be a road through the forest, or gaps somewhere...

If he is moving and firing, he presumably isn't going to have anything left for op fire. One tactic might be for you to follow him up...bump him in the forest on the road (I presume there is a road somewhere as your problem doesn't make sense without it), unload into his units and retreat yourself.

If the situation is more that the forest is at a distance and he's moving into gaps and firing, there surely what you need to be doing is killing whatever is giving line of sight to your tanks. Or, if your tanks are giving away their positions with op fire, try setting your op fire to short and making him come forward to try and nose out the location of your units so you can then force him at least partially into the open. Pity you don't have any infantry, they could be very useful in masking your tanks from that kind of recon.

A screenshot would be helpful....
Pat,

Are you attacking or defending? What is the point spread between victory & defeat?

If defending, he can not see you when he goes into woods. Get your targets under cover.

Do you know how to adjust OP fire? Is OP fire giving away your position?

Using smoke with an assault can shake things up a bit.
Get you men in a position to move forward. Fire the smoke into the hex & advance into that hex the next turn.

Good luck.

What kind of units do you have and does he have? Who is what side? Do you both have heavy arty? Do you have smoke and engineers? Lots of factors to consider.

1. If he has German SS infantry they are hard on your armor.
2. If you are Russians you have assault if you can disrupt him?
3. Do you have LOS from anywhere..... if so sit back and shoot then scoot.
4. If you have the brits or Italians, just surrender (LOL)

Just too many factors to consider without seeing a screen shot and more information.....
