Looks like the Corsair is winning by a BIG margin!

I was going to include the F8F Bearcats but they arrived to late for effective results in the war. I think they might have had an edge :)

Some of the Japanese planes were quite fast but only 5 of you voted for the KI84, how come?:whis:

Did anyone know the Hellcats produced more combat aces out of all the types involved?
Is it possible that you might be thinking of the Ki-100? That was the radial engine upgrade of the Ki-84, and was reported to be the equal in speed (at low/medium altitude) of Allied fighters while being able to outmaneouvre them all....was rated as a very nasty customer indeed. I'd seriously consider giving that one a vote.

Personally tho I went for the Corsair for its versatility, its bounce and climb combat ability, and *cough* becuase that was the aircraft used by the RNZAF squadrons that supported US forces in the Pacific.
Hmmm, actually I think it was an upgrade of the inlined Ki-61, the Ki-84 was a radial and I believe not part of that evolution.
I'm late to the show, but my vote was cast for the Hellcat based on combat accomplishments... It was the airplane that broke the back of Japanese airpower... but the Corsair was an eyelash second in my book and was of such a quality that it lasted into the jet age and Korea, whereas the F6F did not...

Actually, the Corsair is one my favorite aircraft of all time... It's nickname, "the whistling death" just captures my imagination.... the unique gull wings... It is IMO in a class with the Spitfire for beautiful aircraft... whereas the Spitfire is beauty and grace... the Corsair is a blend of power and unique lines...
