I just finished "Touched with Fire: The Land War in the South Pacific " by Eric M. Bergerud. The book came out in 1997 but I haven't seen it dicussed here previously. Covers battles from '42-'43 with plenty of Austrialian point of view. I highly recommend it...

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the tip. Think I'll put this one on my list, looks really good. I have mostly read about the conflict in Europe and would like to know more about the Pacific Theatre.

I'm reading 'a Writer at War' at the moment which has lots of chilling and enlightening anecdotes from a Jewish Soviet Journalist who spent the whole war on the front line: http://www.amazon.com/Writer-War-Vasily-...F8&s=books

His description of Smertniks is like something out of Pirates of the Carib. Then there's the ice sculptures using frozen Germans arrayed in various poses. Very grim but enlightening read.
Thank you sir for the tip on "A Writer at War"...looks good.

Cheers,
Mike
You could draw parallels betwen Touched with Fire and Six Armies in Normandy....thoroughly enjoyed Touched with Fire. Would likewise add a recommedation for "A Writer at War".
