So they finally caught up with you, the worlds oldest egyptian exchange student.
I'm back online for what it's worth after being dragged kicking and screaming from "Old Europe" and being deposited in Strip-Mall Hell.

So Where did we leave off?

I see the square fishing business in Florida is as robust as ever.
BTW, I want to float an idea by youse guys.
How about a running Labanon adventure. With lots of nations putting troops into Lebanon, it looks like a wild and wooly war gameing opportunity. Since the acutal troop levels will be open source for everybody except Iran, we could pick sides and have at it with accurate force levels.
There are enough nations playing so that we could do the multiplayer thing really well. Plus not knpowing who is on who's side would greatly increase the reality factor. We would need some maps, but I think terrain (topos) might be on the web. It would be mostly infantry, since I don't think the Euros will send armor off to Lebanon. That is a big mistake, but the fools actually think that there will be no fighting.
So far we have Italy, France, Beguim, One of the Scandinavians (denmark or Sweden, I forgetwhich), Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Israel plus the UN. It will be an interesting match of units. Plus being in the Mid East, todays allies will be tommorrows enemies.
Not sure how that would work. An umpire for set up? Many players? There can only be 2 sides. But... every faction can have their own special victory conditions. Or do we all BS each other and tell the umpire the truth? That could turn out to be strange with 5 on 1! The UN!!! I'm begining to feel like an arab all ready......time to go upstairs and throw out my TP!!!!!!!!!
TP as in toilet paper? I see you have spent some time in the sand on the economy.
I figured everybody could pick a country and then when that country went into action, we could whip out a battle. It's pretty certain that Hezebolla and Israel won't be on the same side, but after that it gets a little shaky. With 7 or 8 nations having troops in the area and them having no history of co-operation, there is no telling what will happen. We still don't know if the French or the Italians will command, or just what that word command means under the circumstances. I would think most of the engagements would be company sized raids on arms caches, hostage taking or re-taking as the case may be. 10x10 maps with no arty other then small (company weapons platoon) mortars. I guess we would need a referee. Maybe that could be one of the slots. You know, who do you want to play? Italy, France, the UN, Iranian revolutionary guard, Referee, Turkey, Ukraine?
We would have to skip the flags, or just use one to represent a arms cache. Short games 12 turns or so, no more then 20.
It would be different. To bad there is no way to have civilians running around.

Well, there's some civilian troops in UN OOB. I used those in my "Rubbles of Bint Jbail" -thing. You can find the battle diary and rules here: http://koti.mbnet.fi/thexder/Steel/steelbashiri.html

As for the Scandinavian troops in Lebanon I think there wont be any Swedish, Norwegian or Danish infantry, only one company of pioneers from Finland. And I can assure you the Finns wont pull the trigger in anger unless the situation is VERY desperate. And I doubt the others will either as the disarmament of Hizbollah is not UNs job.
But of course the overall situation can heat up again and the UN troops could find themselves in the midst of renewed fighting. I hope that wont happen...

Cheers,
Jukka
Well more like the Bedouin economy. LOL

The French will probably send light armor from the Legion or Marsouns.
the Italians may as well. Don't forget the Chinese..........
I hope it doesn't either. However, our Iranain playmates are not exactly rational by western standards. At some point in time, one of them will feel the need to kill an infidal. Finn, Italian Belguim, it's all the same to them. The meer presence of the UN will be interferrence. So at some point in time, it's inevitable that the UN troops will be shot at. If a UN patrol stumbles across a Hezebolla truck full of weapons and looks the other way, then the IDF will kill them, and rightfully so.
As a philosophical question, if the UN isn't going to honor it's own resolutions, why should anyone else? It most certainly is the UN's job to disarm Hezebollah. They made it their job with UN SC resolution 1551( IIRC). If those resolutions are worthless, doesn't that make the UN worthless?
No, the UNIFL will get shot at. That is inevitable. If your politicians are telling your otherwise, they are fools of the highest order or lying their teeth out. Either way, time to get rid of them.
Nothing new in any of this. Lebanon is about to return to it's natural position, cockpit of Europe, Africia and Asia. As the terminex of the silk road, it has been fought over for the last 5500 years. The oldest known writing is a cuniform tablet recording a battle over Lebanon.

What is new is that us armchair generals can participate this time. Couldn't do that in 3500 B.C., or at least I don't remember doing that.
