"ALL ROADS LEAD TO HELL" (v1.04)

Date: 4 September, 1944

Location: Southeast France. (This an excellent map! Great, lovingly laid-out detail.)

War is hell -- and so are the roads that lead to battle. The Allies will most likely have to use the paved and unpaved roads in order to take the objectives back from a regiment of SS Panzers and Panzergrenadiers. The objectives are railroad stations, factories, refineries, and all of the major bridges and map entry/exit roads.

US and British armored forces, commanded by General Romero, enter the map, en masse, from the southeast. Engineers will be vital for clearing blocked and mined hexes, particularly those on the roads. Beware of enemy bunkers and improved positions watching over major road junctures and entry points into the objective areas! Airborne troops will parachute ahead, deep into enemy territory, to scout out the area and help clear the way.

There are three areas where the majority of objectives are clustered. Control of two of these areas is needed in order to win the scenario. (That is, unless a player is shooting for a major victory with all three -- which will be hard to achieve in this rather balanced scenario.)

Best Played As: Allies

Scenario Length: 15 Turns

Complexity Rating: 6 (Medium-Average)

Allied Forces:

US Tank Regiment: M4 medium tanks and M4(76) medium tanks. M5A1 light tanks and M8 armored scout cars for recon.

US Armored Infantry Regiment: Armored infantry platoons, engineer teams, and light machinegun teams, all in in halftracks; .50-cal machinegun teams and mortar teams in jeeps. Quad .50-cal halftracks, 75mm mobile howitzers, and 81mm mortar halftracks for support.

British Tank Battalion: Sherman/Firefly medium tanks. Crusader dual 20mm AA tanks for support.

US Airborne Engineer Battalion: Parachute infantry platoons, engineer teams, and light machinegun teams.

British Parachute Squadron: British commando teams and engineer teams.

The Allies will have heavy air support.

If the Allies can secure the eastern map entry roads, they can expect reinforcements midway into the scenario.

German Forces:

SS Panzer Regiment: Pz V "Panther" medium tanks, Pz IVH medium tanks, and a couple of "Tiger" tank destroyers. 20mm AA tanks and StuPz IV assault guns for anti-infantry support. PSW 222 armored scout cars and Pz IIL light tanks for recon.

SS Panzergrenadier Battalion: Panzergrenadier platoons, machinegun teams, and 120mm mortar teams, mostly with halftracks. 75mm howitzers halftracks, 81mm howitzer halftracks, and 20mm AA halftracks for support. 75mm anti-tank guns for parameter defense.

Note: Almost all of the German units start the scenario with a 20-30% reduction in Strength. This is due to losses from taking this map, several days prior to this scenario. Also, all of the German units are fixed. They are scheduled for release on Turns 3-5, depending on the unit. Generally, the farther away the German units are from the Allied spearhead (i.e. the southeast), the longer it will take for them to be released for action.

The Germans will have medium-light air support.

The Germans can expect reinforcements midway into the scenario if they keep control of the northwestern and southwestern map entry roads.
